I’ve heard that whatever is in Greentea counteracts the caffeine in it, taking away the jittery-ness it usually creates.
It has antioxidents, helps prevent cancer, detoxes,…The extract L-theanin (spelling?) reportedly helps mood, A.D.D., and many other things.

Yes, it does benefit weightloss. Green tea burns fat and increases the metabolism. It increases your energy and also lowers your cholesterol. It inhibits the movement of glucose cells in the body, so helps to lessen the chance of obesity. Actually, green tea is in a lot of fat burn supplements now-a-days.

The benefits of green tea are very numerous, it provides the body with great antioxidants and this of course helps fight the free radicals in your system. It works with the thermogetics of your body to help burn fat and speed up your metabolism which gives you awesome energy. I personally drink two to three glasses a day but I do not drink it after 5 pm as it does keep me a wake. I get my green tea from Herbalife

ANTIOXIDANTS are good for your body. It is believed that tea flushes out the oils from the body. I love drinking tea! Just pure hot tea without honey or milk. Loose leaves are the most potent. Jasmine tea is calming and has a wonderful flavour. Green tea has health benefits and filled with antioxidants but taste is so-so. Oolong tea will make you very very energetic.

Mixing tees could be better than drinking one type of tea alone due to synergic effects. Jasmine and green tea go together. Mint tea also goes well with green tea.
There are certain simple rules when preparing green tea:
a) Do not put sugar.
b) Do not drink it at late hours (after 18:00 preferably not).
c) Boil water up to 70-90 degrees C.
d) Keep covered before drinking, depending if you want a stimulative effect or medicinal.Drinking more than two cups of almost any tea is not good. Don’t try to loose weight by drinking liters of green tea.
Who cares about calories. Are you a caloryphobic? The bennefits of intake go far beyond brute counting of calories. But, if you are concerned about green tea calories, you should jump three times, make two turns around yourself and lift your right arm and hold it upward for five seconds. If you feel that you still remain with green tea calories, then run into the wall and smack it with your forehead.
Btw, the antioxidant story has a downside. It sounds ridiculous that our body hasn’t found a way to combat such a mennace like oxidants, throughout it’s evolution. Oxidants have the purpose of generating energy. Of course, in our neurotic society we intake too many calories, and thus we grab antioxidants to cover our uncontrolable hunger.
Wikipedia:
“Green tea has been credited with providing a wide variety of health benefits, many of which have not been validated by scientific evidence. These claims and any for which academic citations are currently missing are listed here:
Stopping certain neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s[citation needed]
Preventing/treating cancer [4]
Treating multiple sclerosis [5]
Preventing the degradation of cell membranes by neutralizing the spread of free radicals (which occurs during the process of oxidation). [6]
Reducing the negative effects of LDL cholesterol (bad cholesterol) by lowering levels of triglycerides and increasing the production of HDL cholesterol good cholesterol. [7]
Increasing fat oxidation (helps the body use fat as an energy source) and raising metabolism. [8]
Joy Bauer, a New York City nutritionist, says [the catechins in green tea] increase levels of the metabolism speeding brain chemical norepinephrine. [9]
Japanese researchers claim if you drink five cups of green tea a day, you’ll burn 70 to 80 extra calories. Dr. Nicholas Perricone, an anti-aging specialist, appeared on the Oprah Winfrey show and told Oprah’s viewers they can lose 10 lbs. in 6 weeks drinking green tea instead of coffee [10].
The major concern with drinking too much green tea is the high amount of caffeine it contains. Too much caffeine can cause nausea, insomnia or frequent urination. [11]
Drinking green tea mixed with honey can oftentimes have a soothing effect on a sore throat.” -
Read about Chinese Teas and their benefits in my blog.
The list of teas and the benefits were given to me when I visted Beijing’s teahouse in June.

Simply drinking green tea can’t save us from the damages caused by overeating, a poorly-balanced diet, or a sedentary lifestyle. Today’s research identifies a plant-based diet, a healthy weight, physical activity, and avoiding tobacco as the most effective steps to lower cancer risk. For those who would like to do more to reduce their risk, replacing three or four cups of coffee or soda per day with green tea is still a reasonable step that may bring a variety of health benefits.
Green tea contains relatively high amounts of a type of phytochemical called EGCG, proven in laboratory studies to be a powerful antioxidant. A variety of antioxidants from plant foods seem to stabilize “free radicals,” protecting DNA from damage that could allow cancer to develop, and protecting blood vessels from damage that could promote blockages. Studies show EGCG can also increase production of enzymes that protect us from cancer-causing substances, decrease levels of a substance key to promoting cancer development, and increase cancer cell self-destruction.
Benefits start with one cup a day, but some claim 3-4 cups are needed to see actual results. I purchase both green and white tea from Amazon (search for Rishi tea). A good tasting green tea for those who do not like the ‘grassy’ taste is Jasmine Pearl. They infuse jasmine leaves (reported to speed metabolism and aid in weight loss) with the green tea leaves in small pearl-shaped balls. You then steep this in 175-185 degF water for 3-4 minutes. This is calorie-free, but I do add some local honey for sweetener.
I also enjoy White Tea, which is really green tea, but using the tips of the fresh leaves picked in early spring. They are silvery in color and are the least processed of all tea types, yielding different types of anti-oxidants. A smooth flavor and alternate to the green tea.
Enjoy!

Apart from all the benefits quoted by the previous posters, I’d just add that if you suffer from any form of anemia, you should be careful about green tea daily intake, especially if you’re planning to make it a long term habit. It may be an urban myth, but still I’d check the information first. I read that ‘people who suffer from (iron deficiency) anemia, found out that tea in particular can block the absorption of iron into the bloodstream up to 87%. Some of them went to have labs drawn and were amazed how low their blood count was. Even taking 80mg of iron supplements didn’t help until they stopped drinking tea. Just a little info if you’re a person with iron deficiency’.
I drink green tea, but not on a daily basis, and I prefer brown anyway:) -
But when you drink green tea after your meal, either it lowers the blood sugar or keeps it constant. This prevents your body from creating the products that contribute to increasing bodily fat. But this works only if you have healthy diet.

Green tea is great for your body and this is mainly due to the fact that tea contains high levels of antioxidants called polyphenols or flavonoids.
Consuming three cups of tea a day can produce a similar amount of antioxidants as eating six apples. Antioxidants help your body fight against free radicals which cause damage to cells and tissues in your body. I’ve found a website that lists all the pros in drinking green tea.
